New Exam?

Hello! I am pleased to read your comments on the issue I posted last week. It seems that you have mixed feelings about street demonstration. I do agree with some of your comments which pointed out that street demonstration is one of the ways to express dissatisfaction on certain matters but I still believe that any kind of demonstration or gathering must be carried out with permission and in an orderly fashion.

SPM results are out and our students have recorded some pretty impressive results. I read the reports with mixed feelings. I was touched reading how some students down on their luck still managed to do well in the exam. This is a clear example of how determination and hard work can lead to success despite your background. I am also intrigued to read Ministry of Education's plan to revamp the examination system in our country whereby a student's result is no longer fully dependent on the student's ability to answer in examinations but the student would also be evaluated partly by the school and teachers. The ministry hoped that this would produce well-rounded students who could survive the challenging years in universities.

Read up on this and let's hear what you think.

Hi!!
I read an article about the education system in malaysia that i want to share. From primary schools onward to the tertiary level, we’ve all been taught to memorize and only by memorizing will you score A. Learning in school is supposed to be about gaining knowledge and totally not about how many As you score. The Ministry of Education's need to promote critical thinking and analytic skills as a way to improve creativity among the students. I think it will be a great move by the Ministry of Education's that student would also be evaluated partly by the school and teachers in the near future.

good day everyone,

i think that Ministry of Education's plan to revamp the examination system is a pretty good idea. i do agree with edwin said that, our education system during school hood is all about memorizing. and worse, not many people have the ability to memorize. i do feel that memorizing is a part of ability despite hard work. and only by memorizing, u can score A. that happened when we were in school hood.

if the student will be no longer examined on their ability to answer in examination, it will benefits the students that not have the ability to memorize, but, they have others special skill deep inside of themselves. the special skills need to be polish up. and the responsible goes to schools and teachers to be evaluated.

by this kind of evaluation, i do feel that it will produce well-rounded students who could survive the challenging years in university. it because, they used to be like that (generating their own ability during school hood), and they don't need to waste their time exploring their own ability, and trying harder to shine it out. and its a bonus to them to keep generating their ability that had been explored.

in a nutshell, i do agree with Ministry of Education's plan. and i do believe, by practicing this plan, it will help Malaysia to be an advanced country in order to developing for the future.

First, I want to say that I appreciate all comments (with the except of spam of course) that visitors leave. Without comments, the site wouldn't be as interesting for me to run, and it provides a way for visitors to share opinions.

However, one of the niggles I have concerns the English used in comments. I try to write correct English as much as I can in posts, and would ideally like commentors to try to do the same to some extent. Comments often have no capital letters, no full stops and sometimes no punctuation whatsoever.

It's a difficult problem, because of course I'm grateful for people giving feedback, and being too strict would turn people away. Sometimes I end up adding a few full stops to other people's comments, but this doesn't feel quite right, either. I guess it's my perfectionism. Or do other bloggers feel the same?

Thank you Rizal for your concern on the use of proper English writing to leave comments here. Yes, you are required to leave comments in proper English writing style because language is part of the assessments for this task.

I think that student being evaluated partly by school and teachers besides examination is a good idea. The reason I said this is because some students do have the knowledge about the things they studied, but they might not be able to answer during examination due to certain reasons like mentally preparation or technique in answering question. That's why the new method might help the school to evaluate them without ignoring their true ability.

I am agree with Ministry of Education's plan to revamp the examination system in our country whereby a student's result is no longer fully dependent on the student's ability to answer in examinations but the student would also be evaluated partly by the school and teachers.

When this system is applied there is less tension for students. Current system is not fair for students and tensed them up for example for stpm student have to study fully 5 years but being tested only for few hours(spm). If the system is applied students will be evaluated for the five years and they will tested in the school every year not only based on the few hours exam(spm). Teachers and school know better a student than examinors so it's better student evaluate partly by teacher.

As a conclusion I agree with Ministry of Education's plan because it'll helpfull for students.

I do agree with Limgam idea, because no people can guarantee that they can perform well in the exam,if got some mistake it will affect the hole result, after we hardly study for many years but suddenly destroy in a few hour,it's not fair to the student, that's why I think that evaluated partly by the school and teachers will be the better way to evaluate a student.

hi everyone...
Everything have the pro and contras. About the evaluated not only in examination is not necessary. Examination is very best medium for student to achieve success. SPM is the last big examination for me during my school time. For me,i am very comfortable with the life at school with the examination. I really miss the school life. When i am at school,i always attend extra class. For me school life is very fun.

I agree with Fateha and Edwin that our current school system puts too much emphasis on the students' ability to regurgitate information. I remember the time when I was in school, it was really difficult for me to do well because I didn't have good memorizing skills. The school would organize motivation and study smart courses to help us learn how to memorize better but none of them worked for me. I only managed to scrape through high school. However, I thoroughly enjoyed doing my degree because I didn't have to memorize so much. It was more on how much I could understand and apply. I was really glad the days of sitting and memorizing information was over for me.

i do agree with Edwin that our Ministry of Education's need to promote critical thinking and analytic skills as a way to improve creativity among the students. Learning not just memorising but its about understanding. There are more diferences. Whwn we understand what we learn, we can outimatically can memorise it but when we cam memorise it doesn't mean that we understand what we learn.

i also agree with lingam because not all people can perform well during examination.some people got sick during that day but they have to came and take the exam and get worse result. isn't mean that the student not prepare well? this is unfair for them who prepare so hard for that day.

Hi…
In my point of view, the Ministry of Education's plan to revamp the examination system that the student would also be evaluated partly by the school and teachers is a very good idea especially for the students who can’t do well in memorizing. Some of the students can do quite well in their practical exercises but easy to get nervous during exam. The depression atmosphere during exam will make them feel stressful and getting panic when answering the questions during exam.

I had experienced that during my SPM examination, my mind suddenly became blank and my heart was beating so fast when I got my question paper. I felt hopeless and can’t do anything at that time. If the new examination system is applied students will be evaluated for several years and their results will not only base on the final examination. Students can get some carry marks by applying their knowledge in their daily lives such as what we are practicing in the university right now. By this way, it will help students to decrease their stress in the final exam and the final results of the students can be determined based on their true abilities.

Hi everyone...
In my opinion, it is not necessary to revamp the examination system. This is because the examination system now is very good for students which they must work hard and study constantly, for example always make their own revision after school period. So, they will improve their memorizing while make them not lazy to study. It is familiar when we got nervous during examination, and as a students we must experienced it ourselves. It is true like others said that learning is not only memorizing but it's about understanding, but for me school students level is not like universities students level which must fulfill those criteria. For those who work hard, they will become successful in their life.Fair and square....

Salam..hi everyone!!About this topic all the person are deserve to be a successful person. Its all in our hands whether we want to work hard on it or not. However, sometimes the person who work hard especially in study didn’t get a good result in examination. To me it’s a fate. Everything happen for a reason.Maybe in the future they can be the most successful person compare to the one’s who get better result especially in SPM.As we know everything happen for a reason.Maybe our God want to test us.Without the test from our God and challenge in our life we can’t grow up.Sometimes maybe the way they study are not effective eventhough they read a lot.Its totally different when we can do it and we know how to do it.SPM is just a ticket o go futher. So I think they shouldn’t give up and try again.Learn from the mistake.InsyaAllah they will be a successful person.

hi..

To me during school we always thinking to score A until now...to get 4.00,but it nothing when we only know the theory but do not have skills. However I partially agree with the Ministry of Education's plan to revamp the examination system. It is too early to train them like university student. They not mature yet.For skill I think we already have technique boarding school.Maybe who the one's who expert in skill can go there. Until now I think the university student also still memorising than understanding. To get A maybe it is good way. However for practically they may fail.

for me its not necessary to revamp the examination system. as hazlina said, school level is not same with the university level. in order to to perform well in examination they ara also need to be evaluated by their teachers and school. it just encumber the student.

hai everyone,

i think this year SPM candidates are doing so well because many of them achieve good results. It is so different compare the year of mine. I'm from Sarawak, the result is quite good but not as good as the student in KL. It is same as this year too. My brother get bad result and he told me many of them did not do well in SPM because of nervous and lack of confident during exam. So, i agree with the Ministry of Education's plan to revamp the examination system in our country whereby a student's result is no longer fully dependent on the student's ability to answer in examinations but the student would also be evaluated partly by the school and teachers.

Firstly, I am so glad listen that there is new examination system in our country.

Recently, the examination system in our country are base on the perfomance of the student when the exam is taking out. I really feel that such system having quite many disadvantages.

We need to prepare so much for the exams, using so much time. For example, piblic exam for SPM. It consists of our syllibus in form four and form five. We need to know all of it, do all practises for it, but during exam only test a few topics of it. If the topics that come out in exam are that who we are not understand, then we will lost most of the marks and this is very unfair if we are good in most of the other topics.

In addition, an excellent students should be someone who is very active in school and having a good public relation, which are very importance when we are working in the future. By evaluated by the school and teachers, we will know the ability of the student in these criteria and therefore decide whether they should be given high mark or not.

I agree with Ministry of Education's plan to revamp the examination system in our country. It is a good idea. It looks like Suraini and Siti Hazlina do not agree if Ministry of Education want to revamp the examination system in our country. In my opinion, this revamp plan is relevant and good because student's result would be evaluated partly by the school and teachers. Student's result is no longer fully dependent on the student's ability to answer in examinations. For those who are not really good in exam, this is good right? We know that during examination, not all students can do their best. Many student blank and forget what they memorized before the examination, when see the question and also because of the pressure.

Besides that, if this revamp if continue in examination system in our country, excellent students will not be the one that only great in academy but also in other aspects. By this way, students will not only need to spend their time to memorize what they have learned in class without understand it. Learning process should not be a pressure to student.

hello...!!
Here again I want to say that I don't agree with the ministry that they plan to revamp the examination system in our country. This is because the examination is the date where everyone wait to pass through it. Along that time, students feel the nervous before attend the examination. The examination likes SPM and PMR are the way they put effort to remember the facts. As we know, during the school time, we learn more facts than the analysis term. so we need remember what we have learn all the years. i really miss the time when my friends and i have the discussion group for every subjects due to the schedule that we had made.

Hello to all my friends and for Mr.Azlan,
Firstly I will not comment on the plan of Ministry of Education's. I only want to comment on certain students who can perform really good although they come from the poor family. They have shown to us that's family background is not a hurdle for them to score in their exam. I'm feel really proud of them. Most students now just playing around in their studies because they didn't realize how cruel the world can be. Sometimes reality is a bore.... That's all from me

Just like Suraini, I totlly disagree with the plan that want to revamp our examination system today. Like I said before, student level is not like university level..And I agree with Norlizaa that it is too early to train students like university student. They are not mature yet.. So, it is not false if we just continue the way that we already have now!!!
