Mob Mentality

Hi fellas! It's good to see that some of you are slowly taking part in our blog but participation in general is still poor. Come on! Let's hear those thoughts of yours.

Last week I put forth the issue of PPSMI. From the feedback that some of you have given, most of you seem to agree to continue with PPSMI. Not trying to sound bias here but I sincerely think PPSMI could really improve our deteriorating state of English language proficiency.

Moving on to the next issue which seems to be a trend in our country nowadays; street demonstration. I, for one, am thankful that I don't live in KL because it seems that any disatisfaction on any matter would somehow end in street demonstration and thus causes traffic jam and damages to public property. What's going on?

Street demonstration used to be a common sight in foreign countries but not in Malaysia. Almost every month, we could read in the news about of group of people having street demonstration and the issues fought are various and endless. It's frustrating to see well-educated Malaysians are stooping so low by adopting this mob mentality. Do they sincerely think by being an annoyance to the public, the public would somehow rally to support their cause? Why is this becoming a norm? Let's hear your thoughts.
Please end your comment with your name and matric number ok.

p/s: For those of you who want to submit your project proposal, here is my email address: azlan_ratin@yahoo.com

I think street demonstration is the worst form of way to express dissatisfied against the government. We should express the dissatisfaction in a much better way but not through violence act. Edwin Chan FA08017

Hello everybody...i think street demostration is the worst way to express their feelings. Our country have rules and we have many representative of people who can help us to solve the problem clearly without break the rule. Why don't we use this chance. We just tell them about the problem and they will bring that problem to the Parlimen.Maybe it will discuss it and we can get the solution of the problem. Then it will be the rule of our country.

Compare to Bangkok in Thailand, Malaysia is a more peaceful place. But, street demonstration is still exist here.

From my view of point, everyone will know that having street demonstration is being an annoyance to the publics and cause lots of problems. But this is one of the ways for the citizen to express their dissatiffied to the government. In our community nowaday, not everythings can be solve by using proper way. For example, if the government make some changes on political policy and give rise to extremely dissatify from citizen, do you think it's useful to make complain throught political party? Only through this way the government will regard the problem and therefore solve it using better way.

So, the street demonstration, sometime is necessary to be exist in Malaysia, for the citizen to express their feeling, for the better government for citizen.

Sometimes, it does useful to make complain throught political party and not throught street demostration.Since the main function of political party are to help the citizen to solve their's problems. Street demostration only create havoc to the society and also bringing down the good image of our country. I'm totally disagree with what Chris said. Anyone agree with me? By Edwin Chan FA08017

I am sure that the everyone involved in street demonstration know the problems resulted from the street demostration. But, try to thinking back, the street demonstration involve hundred and even thousand peoples, do you think that not even one they have the brain to think about the consequences of their act? they know it but they still NEED to do it! The political party can help citizen to solve some problems only but not ALL! Therefore, for the problem that even political party can't do anythings, they need to make street demonstration to make government realise the importance of the problems and improve it. Am i wrong?

Is it really useful to protest throught street demostration? Do u think the government would really care about this? It will only creating more problems than solving the problem that already exist.
People who involve in street demostration do have BRAIN to think indeed but they just sought after the wrong way. I do agree that political party can't solve ALL problems but street demostration is wrong. Am i right?

Hi.. it’s true nowadays so many street demonstration occur in our country especially in KL.. I think it brings a lot of disadvantages for our country which make even worse for our economy and also public safety. From my point of view, people who participate in street demonstration make their home place in danger. So many people were injured and died in those incidents. Make people suffer!!! It’s not a proper way to release tension by demonstrating the street due to the unnecessary temper we got into in our daily lives.

I'm agree with Edwin..

Street demonstration just cause lots of problems, make the problem became worst, give bad image to our country, annoying the public and many more disadvantages... This is not the right way to solve problem, in the same time just create another problem.. Use the right way to express your dissatisfaction.. Street demonstration is not the best way to express the dissatisfaction among the well-educated Malaysians... So, F01 students.. who will join street demonstration?? don't raise your hand..

Although all people know street demonstration just bring trouble to the public, but sometime street demonstration can help citizen to solve a lot of problem. Maybe some of us say that the street demonstration is an activity that people to express their dissatisfied against the government. But why we not try to think from the view of people that having a street demonstration. In my opinion, if government done well in their job as a leader of the country, street demonstration will not be happen. Street demonstration is activities that sometime involve a hundred and even thousand peoples. It means that what government done is already ignoring the advantage of the citizen. Am I right??

Nothing is perfect in this world! So do our government. That's why we have all the representatives who speak on behalf of the residents. From young, we were inculcated that violent can't solve any problem. Violent wil only bring more violent.Does street demonstration considered as violent? Street demonstration might seems to be a good way to express disatisfaction, but what does it cause besides chaos? Police have to use strong force like water pipe to stop the street demonstration. It somehow wasting the sources and human power to stop the demonstration. After it ended, what left behind is nothing but rubbish everywhere. It wil indirectly affects our economy since our political condition is such a havoc. Who else wil have intention to invest in this country anymore? So, make your own judgement about whether we should carry out street demonstration?

Each and everyone of us have different point of views in street demostration. But, the main point here is we can't just solve the problem using violence but a soft apporoach is always more useful. Investor won't interested in a country that always having street demonstration whenever the citizen not satisfied with the government decision. We are all well-educated person and shouldn't ever support street demonstration for the rest of our life. Am I wrong???

Each of the human being has their own way of solving a problem. Maybe some of us thinking that using a violent way will only bring more violent and should using a soft approach when solving a problem. This may be a good method but soft approach can’t solve the entire problem. Sometime using a violent method will be the best way in solves the problem. Have we thought more clearly why people will have a street demonstration? This is because government ignoring the people who view out their point about disagreement of citizen of some policy that using a soft approach to solve the problem. When the government keeps ignoring the citizen opinion, citizen will change their way to say out their opinion using violent method like street demonstration. Don’t you think I am right?

Hi!!!

Violence act just like street demostration will always end up with bloods and deaths just for the sake so that the government will pay attention to them. This is actually what happens in those country that having huge protest of street demostration every days and nights.

Do we really want this unfortunate events to happen to our country ? Just remember to think carefully the trouble that caused by street demostration before supporting it so deeply.

Do we really think that street demostration is just to express thier feeling towards the government like Chris mentioned long ago? Some of them are maybe political motivated and only try to corrupt the mind of the people towards the government. Don't you think I'm right?

Hi everyone...today i will talk about my dream..
What on earth is happening? Last night I dreamt of talking to a Apple Mac owning friend of mine. Totally intrigued, I found myself really wanting one. We walked around a shop looking at Macs and their ethernet ports - I was asking if you could plug one directly into my router at home. When I woke up this wanting crave persisted.

My very first computer was a Mac. It was a tough decision but because my school had a fair number of Macs it seemed like a wise choice. I bought a Performa 630 and spent hours on it, tweaking this and that, trying to get it to run as fast as it could. Now, I know next to nothing about how to use Macs.

It wasn't until I started university that I bought a Windows based PC - I haven't looked back. Is it time to think about returning to Macs?

Hi everyone...
There is a mob mentality developing over the AIG bonuses given out. And its completely out of hand. Its dominating the news coverage on every major network. Its got everyone from DC to Fargo in a pure, mindless tizzy. It's basically because of the term "bonus", which is mentally linked with reward--but that's all people know. Does anyone know why these bonuses were given out or to whom?

K.L BOY....
Fisrt of all i would like tell that i feel very fortunate to be a K.L citizen.. As a K.L citizen I'm getting a closer exposure and clear view of these kind of issues..

I'm partially agree with the demonstrations. We should know that carrying out a demonstration is not that easy and too risky. Eventhough carrying out a demonstration is too risky, some educated people is still willing to do demonstrations. It's shows us that they have strong reasons. why they do demonstrations? it's simple they just need people's attention specifically government and non-government's attention. By demonstration they screen their intention and their needs.

but on the other hand, demonstrations shouldn't carry out to screen their intentions. they are educated so they should know better way to express their feelings or their needs. they can express trhough other medias. they also can express through represantative that we have chosen. if all the medias fail, then demonstrations should be carry out.... :-)

Anonymous said...

Hi!!

I'm partially agree with Lingam's opinion about street demostration.
If these people knew it's risky and not too easy, why should they choose to do so? Is it really worth it by having street demostartion just for attention?
Just see what happen if these peoples are under Internal Security Act (ISA), they will definitely regret what they did before that.

Anyone think I'm wrong, voice it out and I'm really waiting for that?

I am agree with Lingam's opinion about the street demonstration.
Even people know carry out the street demonstration is risk and not easy, but why their still can gather the people to having a street demonstration? Because they problem that they are facing still haven't been solve and the government couldn't give them an answer or just ignoring them. So by carry out the street demonstration, they can get an attention from government and non government about what their really wants.
If by carry out the street demonstration to express what have been ignore by the government and get arrest by the ISA, i think we should carry out the street demonstration to require the government to free the person who been arrest in ISA. In my opinion, the ISA system is already out of date and not suitable to practice at nowadays.

Anonymous said...

I do agree with Siew Tien's opinion that ISA is already out of date and shouldn't be practice anymore. The government aren't ready to have some changes in this ISA but still street demostration was't the best way to solve this problem.

What the citizens can do now are think and vote wisely for the government that they wish to have in the next general election.

Have you ever consider the consequences if under the arrest of ISA? Do you really want to lose your freedom for few years? Is it really worth it?

We will only jeopardize our own future only by joining street demostration. Have you ever consider the feeling of your parents if they knew what you did?
Will they proud of what you did? It will be only a disgrace to the family, society and the country by joining street demostration.

Still think I'm wrong???

Have u ever think that why many people still joining street demonstration? Why they still do that even know they be will under arrest.Answer is simple only, people only want to show their feelings or their needs, to goverment only ,if everyone just do nothing, keep silence only what will happen to this country...........

LAU SIEW TIEN FA08065 said...

I'm partially agree with the street demonstration that it is a kind of way for people who were ignored by the government when they viewed out their point about disagreement of citizen of some policy to express their dissatisfaction.

However, in my opinion, street demonstration is the worst way to screen our intentions and feelings to the government and non-government. As we know, street demonstrations nowadays are too violent and have caused many deaths. Have we ever thought for the family of the deceases? Does the government will really care about this? Why do we want to carry out a street demonstration and create more problems than solving the problems that already existed? Violence act like street demonstration will only increase the fear among the citizens and show that the citizens of the country are not unity.

LEE LE XIN FA08006 said...

In my opinion street demonstration can do in many ways, doesn't mean that it must only be in violent, it only depend on people how to take on it.That's why i still think that street demonstration is needed for people to express their feeling, but not in violent ways.

edwinchj said...

A simple question come with a simple answer as we know it but a violence act like street demostration will only jeopardize the country future forever.

Silence is golden for street demostration only but we can voice out our dissatisfaction in other medias that we have nowadays.

Just think twice before joining any ilegal gathering without permission by the government. If you are a parents, think of your children first. If you are a husband, think of your wife first. If you are a teenager, think of your parents that raise you up. I think we should always remember the person we care for so that we won't join street demostration. Am I right???

Hello everybody~

As we talk about the street demonstration, today I want tell you all about street demonstration at baghdad.

American flags were set on fire Friday to chants of "no, no for occupation" as followers of an anti-U.S. Shiite cleric marked the sixth anniversary of the Iraq war.

In five other Iraqi cities, supporters of cleric Muqtada al-Sadr also either marched or stood in protest after prayers to demand the release of their allies detained at Iraqi and U.S.-run prisons.

The protests came as a suicide bomber in Fallujah killed an Iraqi police officer and five other people, including civilians, in an attempted attack on
the home of the local leader of Sunni security volunteers who turned against al-Qaida.

Also, a pair of roadside bombs exploded within 10 minutes of one another after sundown Friday, wounding four policemen and three civilians in Baghdad's Karradah district, police said. A police colonel and his aide were wounded in a bombing Friday in Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit, police said.

hello there,

but anyhow, i'm still trying to leave my opinion in this tiny box.

talking about street demonstration, i totally disagree with that kind of phenomenon's. for me, it is not the best way to express feelings. our country owned rules. and, as a polite citizens, we shouldn't have to break the rules and humiliated our own country.

i lived in KL before, and experienced this kind of things once. seriously, it is terrible, and i'm feeling in secure at the moment. thanks god nothing happened. but, it still leave a spot in my memory. looking people, full of anger, making violence, shouting here and there, was a terrible experienced i'd faced.

but then, luckily, street demonstration are not spread to other state in Malaysia. and Malaysian government had try their best to prevent it. congrats Malaysia.

Today, I want to talk about chocolate. Chocolate always been related to fat, and contain more sugar. Is it true? Did you know that the impact of chocolate’s luxurious taste on the sense has been compared to the feeling of falling in love?
Chocolate also can be as medication. Studies have shown that chocolate triggers the release of feel-good endorphins in the brain. Chocolate contains pharmacologically actives substances that have the same effect on the brain as marijuana.
Chocolate also can be defined as a health food, which contains very high levels of catechins. Just 25g of dark chocolate contains as much as 41mg of flavanols, the powerful antioxidants that guard against plaque build-up in artery walls. That’s more antioxidants than a cup of green tea, or an apple. Chocolate is a significant source of essential nutrients such as calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, niacin and riboflavin. It is amazing right? So, let have a chocolate now….

LAU SIEW TIEN FA08065 said...

hello everyone,
Lingam, now we are talking about street demonstration not about chocolate. I know chocolate is sweet just like the feeling of falling in love. But do you know the behind of the sweet love? That is the continues bad dream.
Even the chocolate defined as a health food, but overtake the chocolate will cause the diabetes and heart attack. So why should we take a risk to eat the chocolate that will cause a lot of dangerous disease?

Chris said...

Chocolate? When talking about chocolate, in my mind, immediately I will think about the present to my girlfriend during Valentine.

Girls... Who of you don't like to receive a box of chocolate, especially during Valentine day. Even though the chocolate can make people become fat, but the girls still wish to receive chocolate during Valentine. It's very romantics when the girl's lover give her a box of chocolate, and eat it together, under the moon, so romantic!

Besides advantages of chocolate of what Lingam said before, a new study has also revealed that eating chocolate could improve the brain's ability to do maths as well as boost your energy level.Researchers have carried out the study and found that flavanols found in chocolate and part of a group of chemicals called polyphenols, actually work by increasing the flow of blood into the brain. So, those who are weak in maths(ODE), just go and buy a chocolate eat until final test. Then, if you got A for ODE, just buy a chocolate for me and Lingam. Have a nice try! :)

I just read most of the comments post from other students, seems most of them feel that street demonstration is very annoyance. I'm try not to be bias, but for me they have their own reasons for doing that's. As mention before some of them are well educated person, so can someone tell me what's wrong with society? It doesn't make sense to me. Is Malaysian going crazy? Maybe for me, those who are doing street demonstration thinks that their voice are not reached to the person or institution who are they dedicated to. But whatever the reasons they have. they actually are making havoc to the country and it's really frustrating to the other Malaysians because people from other country who saw the street demonstration will have negative image to our country. If they thinks twice or thinks out of the box and when they open their eye they will see something is wrong in what they doing. There are many other way to express their feeling, the world is not going to fall apart if they take a time to think for awhile. But as civilized country this should not happen.I still can't find the good reason of street demonstration.... No patience, obsessed with exploitation, lying, denying that`s all I know about street demonstration. What I can say is we need to maintain the peace of our country. Last word from me, love peace no street demonstrating....
