Hi, everyone!

So far only one comment has been posted on our blog group. What's the matter? Too busy? Well, I hope you will spend some time posting your entries here as they are part of your assessment. You don't have to wait for me to kick start a discussion; you can start one now. Thank you Rem for your comment but I am not sure how to find out who you really are. Is it possible for all of you to use your real name when you want to leave your comment? If not do let me know how I can find out the real person behind the name.

Moving on, as of late, our beloved country is rocked with one issue after another. Political, education, social, economy, it's like there's no end in sight. One of the prominent issues headlining our country's news is the decision to keep using English language in the teaching of Maths and Sciences or to revert to using the national language. Everyone seems to have an opinion on this matter from the kings to politicians to educationists to parents and to the general public itself but so far I have yet to come across a research that seeks feedback from the ones who are really affected by this policy; the students. You are students. What do you think, honestly?

Hi everyone.About this topic, during matriculation I have done a surveyed on this topic.Based on the surveying most of sudent disagree if we turn back to study mathematics and science in English because it's hard to understand in Malay and some specific terms will sound funny in natiol language. To me it's better in English because this is one way to improve English and nowadays English language became the world language.

hye everyone.About this topic,i'm not sure it is necessary or not.As the developing country, we need to learn more about this world. As the Malaysians, we have to be smart in what we do.we need to make world know our country. We need to work hard to make our country achieve many success. As a conclusion, we have to try our best although we use the foreign language to achieve what we want. After we are the successful country, then we can do what ever we want included make our laguage as the world language.

hello everyone,
in my humble opinion, it is not necessary to revert teaching Maths and Science in our national language for now. instead of sounding funny pronouncing several terms in malay, we also need to put more effort and money by converting the syllabusss and teaching plan in malay language back. by using english in maths and science subject, i belive it is the best medium for students and citizens to learn english, also improve their english. when we are strong enough one day, then we can convert back our national malay language in the teaching of Maths and Science.

Hi everyone!!!!!!!
In my opinion, I think the teaching of Maths & Sciences should be still in English and shouldn't considering at all to revert back to national language. It's easier to study this subject in English compared with Malay language.

I am extremely disagree on this!!!

Learning Maths and Science subjects in English language are consider as luck for the students nowaday. As we know, english is the international language in the world, and the developed country like USA, UK which are expert in maths and sciences all are using english language as medium of communication.

Malaysia needs knowledges on Maths and Sciences from these country to make improvement in the country. If teaching Maths and Sciences are convert back to national language will make students difficult to understanding the books from these country which is in term of english. In addition, students will feel hard to learn Maths and Sciences in english when they are study in foreign country.

I read a blog about should continue teaching Maths and Science in english by M. Bakri Musa recently. Based on a finding by the Ministry of Education, a significant improvement in our students' achievements during the first 5 months after the governmnet started the teaching Maths and Science in english.
The main weakness of the implementation of this policy, in particular is the lack of teachers fluent in English.
To make sure a great future ahead for our generation, the government should improve the language command of these teachers.

SPM 2008: Rural students outdo urban peers
http://www.nst.com.my

This is an interesting articles that I just read from news straits time. It's very clear that argument that teaching of sciences and mathematics in english cause the rural students to lag can be ban.For SPM 2008 result, it can prove that teaching of Sciences and Mathematics in English which introduced in 2003 make improvement of students' performance in these subject. Majority students answer their questions in english for the two subjects. So, teaching sciences and Mathematics in english should continue in Malaysia.

I also think that we should use English in Sciences and Maths. Since this is the 9th year using English , why should goverment abolish it again? As i knew, few decades ago, education was conducted using English but changed to malay afterwards. Since we have the chance to exposed more to English, why don't we just continue with it!

hye everyone!!

In my opinion, learning Sciences and Maths in English is the best way. There is no need to revert teaching Maths and Science in our national language for now... I believe this is good for the student's future and they also can get many advantages from this.. So, learn + read + write in English.. yes we can!! haha

hello everyone....

Hmm about this topic i think we should continue teaching Maths and Science in english. This is because we have study this subject in english for a long time. If we change it to malay it may cause some problem to us to understand the terms. In fact we also can improve our english right? This can give benefit to us in future. But we should not debase our national language.

In my opinion we should use English in Sciences and Maths. Because English is international language, most of the company outside now only hire people who weel knows in english. That why we should continued teaching English in Sciences and Maths.

If implemented properly, language isn't a barrier.

Give anybody some food on the plate,be it western, local or Japanese food, he or she will be able to learn to use the right utensils to eat. So I don't think it's a big fuss in learning.

Maths and Science are originated mainly from the English language. After so many years, what's the actual volume of words or reference books converted into BM??????

If they think they have the proper tools and the committed teachers, anything can be archive. My question is WHY have so many changes and confuse everybody.

They can't make up what they really want to implement for our future generation. Even scraping UPSR & PMR and whatever not.

Can our future generation cope up with globalisation if we make the wrong move. The effect of globalisation is already felt right now when some of our people who score 'A' for English but can't really converse in simple English.

It takes a very big cost to change a policy in the education ministry. All the text book and other teaching material have to be converted to Bahasa Malaysia back.If they really want to change it back..all the professor and the teachers responsible have to translate every single reference source available. It is not impossible because if we lokk to developed country like Japan,Russia,Italy, and many more...they use their own language.

Hello everyone...
It seems like most of you disagreed with reverting our teaching language in Maths and Science to our national language. In my opinion, it is a hard task for a student to study in Maths and Science if the teaching language is changed. I think most of our classmates had experienced that before. For example, when I was in high school, the teaching language of Maths and Science was in Malay, but when I entered Form Six the teaching language of the both subjects has changed to English. It was hard for me to revert all the scientific terms to English and I have to learn all the knowledge again from the beginning.
Besides that, as we know English is the most popular international language and we can use this language at any country that we go, and so learning English language is very important to all of us especially in engineering field. We may continue our studies at some developed countries or may work as a engineer at other countries and English will be very useful for us in an interview to apply scholarship or to apply a better job if we are fluent in English.

Hello everyone,
Using English language in the teaching of Math and Sciences is not a new issue anymore. In my opinion, we should keep using English language in teaching of math and sciences subject. As we know, English is an international language and almost all the important information is written in English. So if we look back the time when math and science is teaching in Malay, student facing a few problems that is some word is still written in English and some of the word became weird and meaningless. Besides that, most of the companies are using English as the main point when hiring people. Teaching English in math and science will make improvement in the country and save a lot of cost and time for hiring people to convert the English to Malay.

"Dear Brothers and Sisters,

From my point of view, there's nothing wrong of BM be our National Language but we must realise something... WITHOUT GOOD COMMAND in ENGLISH, we cannot go far, we cannot compete internationally. I believe most of you will agree with me on this.

Lately we hear lot of people making noise and want Maths and Science to be taught in BM. Do all these people still remember why previously there was an issue where more than 60,000 graduates were unemployed??? The answer was very straight forward..... They either couldn't communicate or poor in English. Due to that many company find very difficult to employ them as ther key person or executive staff.

So, for all the parents out there... let me ask you this question... Do you all want this to happen to your kids??? Think again... Without good command in English, our kids only can be the "Jagoh Kampung". They CANNOT compete internationally not only that, they also couldn't further up their studies abroad and definitely can forget about working in foreign countries.

Instead of protesting the teahing of Maths and Science in English, we should encourage the government to find more ways to teach our kids and improve their command in English.

In my opinion, math and science should taught in English so that the next generations can compete with the foreings countries. Summore most of the information about invention's, materials, and even calculations from internet is in English. Taught math and science in English will help next us to improve in English. Of course we no need to have translations when we go overseas for further studies. As a conclusion we wont lose anything by studying math and science in English but we can sharp our English.

In my opinion on this matter, we need to keep using English language in the teaching of Maths and Sciences. This is because, as we know, English is a world language.
To be one of the strong country, we must take care about this first. Nowadays, everything is in English. However, some people said, "Why we're not act like Japan, used their mother tongue language, and now they also become a great country in this world." YES, this statement is true, but for me our country is not strong enough. And for me, we use English language now is only just a trick to make our country become more develop and strong. One day, when we can stand in our own leg, then we can change everything in what we want. Perhaps one day!!

Hello~

We keep on saying that we have to teach math and science in english to remain competitive with developed countries. Do you actually know that in general malaysian students perform better than American students in science and math? Most of the other countries with its students performing well in science and math are countries that don't teach these subjects in english.

Teaching science and math in english isn't the best solution to solve our students lack of knowledge in english. Preparing the english teachers to be better equipped or developing a better syllabus for teaching english might help for one. Language can only be improved by reading and conversing more in that language and furthermore having teachers not well verse in english to teach science and math using english actually defeats the purpose don't you think?

About PPSMI ,if we think once again how about our language if Science and Mathematics we proceed in English? The identity of our country as a Malaysia. If we proceed the PPSMI,Malay language will be the second language in our life.As we know ,not all of the student out there especially who stay at the village and rural area can catch up their study when learning process especially Science and Mathematics in English. After Malaysia get independent,we noticed that in education it focus in 3M that refer to reading, calculating and writing. What happen if we proceed the Science and Mathematics subject in English?I think maybe the rate of the student who can’t read or calculating are increase?Don’t you think so?It is my opinion.Maybe my first statement I agree with learning Science and Mathematics in English but when I think about this once again it make me not really agree to proceed PPSMI.

Hello everyone,
Teaching Math and Sciences in English will be the best method to make improvements to our country. Why I say like that is because if we look at Singapura, their technology is more developed than Malaysia. Why such thing happen? If we look at the time of independent, Singapura is more late independent than Malaysia, but why technology of Singapura is more developed than Malaysia? One of the reason are Singapura is using the English in their teaching plan of math and sciences.
If Malaysia want to develops such as Singapura, teaching Math and Sciences in English is compulsory, so that our next generation can compete with Singapura and most of the information is written in English. If Malaysia keep use the Malay as their teaching Math and Sciences, for sure we will left behind because we need a lot of time to translate the English to Malay. Did you all agree with me?

Hello everyone,
Frankly at first, I'm quite disagree with the decision to teach Math and Sciences in English, but now I'm strongly agree with it. If Math and Sciences still been taught in Malay, many students especially from the rural area will not know how to use English in proper way. In addition most of the reference books are written in English so it's compulsory for them to learn it. That's only my opinion. No pain no gain....
